The Process
On-Site Research
Conducted ethnographic research, observing how restaurant staff used the order assembly monitors.
Design Development
Developed new designs for the monitors, targeting visual grouping, maximizing color contrasts for visual processing and comprehension, and leveraged technology to determine the optimal way to present customized orders to the assembler.
Validation Testing
Quantitatively test and compare our designs to the current designs in a test kitchen environment to evaluate whether the new designs improved order accuracy and speed with statistical significance.

Results
Our designs improved both order assembly accuracy and speed, with statistical significance, which translated to significant reduction in food waste and increases in customer throughput.
Our designs were implemented in over 14,000 restaurants across the U.S.
