Point of Sales Design

Client

Quick-Service Restaurants

Goal

Unify the Post of Sales (POS) experience across three different restaurant brands, with a focus on increasing both speed and accuracy of taking customer orders.

Approach

The Process

On-Site Research

Conducted ethnographic research, listening to 100s of customer orders to identify areas of opportunity for improving the current POS designs.

Finding Opportunities

Developed new workflows and use of dynamic, context-relevant keying to improve order taking efficiency and upsell opportunities

POS system with camera set up for observation

Results

Our designs reduced button presses by up to 75%, as well as allowed the order taker to input the customer order flexibly, matching how customers verbalized their order, minimizing the need to interrupt the customer order flow.

Our designs were implemented in over 14,000 restaurants across the U.S. Subsequent client engagements helped to adapt the designs across multiple global markets.
