Home Office: Quarantine Edition

Plenty of people are experts at working remotely. They do it everyday, and they’ve found their groove making conference calls in PJs or dressing to the nines as a productivity mind trick. But now there is a new cohort in town - the coronavirus social distancers, and they are lost. Of course by “they” I mean us...and probably you.

We have been thrust into a life where the only office we have is one we foolishly threw together for the occasional WFH. It was kind of sweet at first imagining relocating to the home office. Just a small transition really. I mean it’s already set up so perfectly...and so not πŸ‘ useful πŸ‘ at πŸ‘ all πŸ‘

The TC gang has been navigating this transition together—for better or worse—and we figured why not start a discussion about how this is all really shaking out during quarantine.

So what changed?

Had to move the desk to the living room to be away from my bed and closer to some sunlight.

The unexpected?

  1. I am becoming a virtuoso floutist again.
  2. ...I got a dog. (more to come on this development)

So what changed?

The basement office was too gloomy to work everyday, so now the dining table is home base.

The unexpected?

  1. I may not ever need to go outside again...I kinda like this.
  2. The dogs dress nicer than I do for work everyday.

So what changed?

There's an adorable study just to the right of the frame. Turned out it was too dark and depressing. Hello, dining table!

The unexpected?

  1. I'm an introvert that hates being quarantined.
  2. Despite being the markedly laissez faire one about germs, it took only 2 days to become addicted to Clorox wipes.

So what changed?

Not unlike everyone else, I've positioned my "office" squarely in front of the window to feel a little less detached from the world.

The unexpected?

  • I am not wired to be an elementary school teacher.
  • A few weeks ago, I didn't think I could get less exercise and physical movement in a given day ... I was wrong.

So what changed?

This desk is strictly for decoration and NEVER has seen a computer. Also, I’m destroying the equally naive area rug with this rolling chair.

The unexpected?

  • I’m becoming a better cook due to all the extra practice I'm getting.
  • I'm finally practicing my acrylic painting again (after 14 years).
